Delphi's Semi-Active Suspension System
-
Delphi Automotive's MagneRide
Suspension Control System
One of 100
"Best of What's New" Technical Achievements of 1999, November 9, 1999
"MagneRide will first appear on passenger
vehicles beginning in 2003."
"With MagneRide, suspension damping is controlled by an
on-board computer that signals an electro-magnet in the damper
piston to change the flow properties of the magneto-rheological
damping fluid and resultant damping forces up to 1,000 times
per second. This allows the system to respond rapidly to a
wide range of road and driving conditions. These damping
forces provide improved vehicle interior isolation and ride
smoothness..."
- Delphi's
MagneRide Technology Earns Equip'Auto Award, October 15, 1999
"Delphi Automotive received the "Grand Prix Internationaux
de la Creation Technique" (Grand Prize for New International
Technology) for MagneRide, a continuously variable valveless
real-time damping suspension system that uses a magnetically-controlled
damping fluid."
- Delphi Introduces
MagneRide Suspension Control Technology at 1999 IAA, September 14, 1999
.
"The MagneRide system -- introduced here at the Frankfurt
International Motor Show (IAA '99) -- is a high-performance,
high-value, semi-active suspension control system that optimizes
vehicle ride and handling by providing Continuously Variable
Real-Time Damping (CV-RTD) control based on road and driver inputs."
